Committees

Beautification Committee

The Beautification Committee focuses its efforts on beautifying areas within Woodland Drives.  Specific examples include the city-owned triangles at Limbo Lane and Old Fort Drive.   A multi-week 2022 effort funded by a City of Tallahassee Vibrant Grant designed to clean, enhance, and beautify these two areas.  An additional benefit is improved line of sights for drivers.  The committee also maintains two prominent entrances to Woodland Drives, the city owned triangle at Santa Rosa Drive and Circle Drive on our western border and the northern entrance at Lafayette Street and Seminole Drive.  Plantings also occur in the traffic circles on Circle Drive.  Over the years, the committee has also made major contributions to Old Fort Park such as plantings, book exchange, and sign maintenance.   Maintenance of entrance signs throughout the neighborhood is also within their purview.  The committee is comprised entirely of volunteers and is chaired by Deborah Lawson.  She may be reached at deborah.e.lawson@outlook.com.

Government Affairs Committee

The Governmental Affairs Committee’s duties include fostering and conducting activities that achieve the purpose stated in the Association Constitution generally, and specifically:

  • To preserve and enhance the Woodland Drives neighborhood as a desirable residential community;
  • To uphold and protect the value of homes;
  • To promote sound comprehensive planning, zoning and land use regulations and to oppose detrimental comprehensive plan amendments, zoning or zoning changes within and surrounding the neighborhood;
  • To provide a forum for the homeowners and residents, to establish opinion and to make these opinions known to the general public and to the City and County officials on topics of concern; and
  • To participate in the activities of Tallahassee/Leon County neighborhood advocacy organizations, including the Alliance of Tallahassee Neighborhoods (ATN), as they strive to better the metropolitan whole of Tallahassee.

Jeff Blair serves as WDNA’s Vice President and chairs the Governmental Affairs Committee.  He may be reached at facilitatedsolutionsjb@gmail.com.

Alliance of Tallahassee Neighborhoods (ATN)

Woodlands Drives is a member of the Alliance of Tallahassee Neighborhoods (ATN).  ATN advocates for policies and initiatives that protect and enhance Tallahassee and its neighborhoods.  Vibrant neighborhoods drive Tallahassee’s enviable quality of life.  Using our combined knowledge, expertise, and energy we build consensus on critical issues and take constructive action.  We believe that citizen participation in city development processes is vital to a successful future.  We support sound urban development.  We are acutely aware of sprawl’s adverse impacts on city resources and citizens.  We support thoughtful incremental development paired with sensible policies that enhance, complement, and respect our neighborhoods.  This perspective corresponds to the Vision Statement in the Tallahassee-Leon County Comprehensive Plan.

Jeff Blair serves as Woodland Drives Neighborhood Association’s (WDNA) representative to ATN and is a member of ATN’s Executive Committee.  He may be reached at facilitatedsolutionsjb@gmail.com.

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee is designed to promote regular communication between the Board of Directors and all neighbors within Woodland Drives.  The committee publishes quarterly electronic and printed newsletters, maintains and posts on the WDNA email group, monitors and posts on the Woodland Drives’ Face Book page and maintains the WDNA website.  Board member Sue Conte chairs the committee.  She may be reached at contesherman@gmail.com.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors Committee

A group of neighbors has created a volunteer-based neighborhood organization that promotes and coordinates temporary assistance for Woodland Drives residents.  This committee is known as Neighbors Helping Neighbors (NHN).  Volunteers provide help with tasks we may not be capable of doing on our own whether we are aging, a young parent, or just in need of a helping hand.

Each requested service will be provided on a temporary basis and for a duration agreed upon by the volunteer providing the service and the person receiving the service.  NHN will add services as we build the capacity to do so.

Outside the Home

Safety Committee

The Safety Committee is focused on issues such as crime, neighborhood watch, and emergency preparedness.  Members regularly monitor crime statistics for Woodland Drives and liaison with the Tallahassee Police Department.  They identify and publish helpful information for homeowners to use to keep their homes and persons safe.  They also coordinate Block Captain activity within the neighborhood.  The co-chairs also gather and post information related to emergency preparedness by liaisoning with the American Red Cross and other disaster relief organizations.  This ad hoc committee is currently inactive.
